The Neonatal Loss Remembrance Page
What is Calypso's Ocean?
Calypso's Ocean is a Neonatal Loss Remembrance Page. There are pages out there for Babies lost to Stillbirth, to certain birth defects, and sites for SIDS losses. But there was no memorial site for babies lost in the NICU. That is what Calypso's Ocean is.
Why the Name?
My daughter Calypso Paikea Rhyder was born on June 14, 2007 at 29 weeks 5 days. She lived for 23 days before passing away on July 7, 2007 from Renal Failure as a complication of an intestinal infection.
Calypso was first given her middle names. Paikea Rhyder from the Maori legend of Paikea the Whale Rider. Paikea also means Humpback Whale. So we chose Paikea Rhyder to mean Whale Rider. Her first name we came across later. But it's after the Greek Sea nymph Calypso known by sailors as the Sea Goddess.

What does Calypso's Ocean Offer
A place for you to memorialize your angel with their name, a photo of your choice, what gestation they were born at, weight, height, and what they died of (if you wish) I will also put the parents name and a small message to their angel. If you wish I can link to your Child's memorial site also.
I will also be putting up a large list of resources for Bereaved parents including book lists, music, links to support, and links to memorial items. It is WIP though and will not be up for a few days.
If you would like your child included please use the form on the 'Submit your Angel' Page
